    Description

At Demo-Skis we make sure that every ski and board you purchase is tuned and ready to slide down the hill. This is a service we offer for free under the belief that our customers deserve the best products and performance. Our complimentary tune includes a flat grind, p-tex repairs, edge sharpen and a friction belt wax.
Even though a friction wax will get your skis ready to go, the wax applied to the base does not penetrate as deep as it would during a hot wax and therefore will only last 1 to 2 days. If your looking for better performance that lasts 10 times longer than a basic friction wax, you should consider upgrading to a hot wax.
For your hot wax we will use a universal temperature pearl wax that accommodates the widest range of snow temps and weather throughout the season. We will scrape and buff the bases to a polished finish.
    What is a Stone Grind?
A stone grind happens after the flat grind. Running your skis over a stone will give structure to the bases that depending on the snow conditions will help to retain or wick away moisture for improved glide.
    Why Stone Grind?
As a ski or snowboard slides over snow crystals, heat is created due to friction. This heat, in turn, creates water droplets by melting the tips of the snow crystals. Water is the key to bases that are fast and easier to turn, but only if the correct amount is present under your skis or snowboard. Adding structure via a stone grind ensures that the right amount of water is present. The patterns created by the stone will help to retain the right amount of water under the base in cold/dry conditions or help wick away excess moisture in warm/wet conditions.
The structure will also help rid the bases of unwanted dirt, grim and old wax allowing the new wax applied during a hot wax to draw old wax out replacing it with fresh wax.
We adjust the patterns on our stone to match the snow condition typically present during various times throughout the ski season.
    WHAT IS A HOT WAX?
During a friction wax the skis are passed over a heated,  spinning scotch-brite belt with wax on it. The friction and heat in turn transfers the wax to the base. During a hot wax, wax is melted on to the base using a temperature calibrated iron. This process melts the wax deep into the base. The wax is then left to cool and the excess is scrapped off and the bases are buffed to a clean surface.
    WHY WAX?
Back in the early days when all skis had wood bases, skiers had little choice but to wax 'em regularly if they wanted to slide on snow. But along with the introduction of polyethylene bases (p-tex) came the assumption that skis no longer needed waxing. Wrong...p-tex is a thirsty plastic that needs frequent wax feedings. In no time at all, the number of skiers who waxed their skis flip-flopped from 97% who did, to 97% who didn't. And that's pretty much where it remains today... amazingly, only 3-4% of skiers or snowboarders bother to wax their equipment. The performance these folks lose because of this misunderstanding is significant...a waxed base is about 30% easier to turn, more durable and faster than an unwaxed base.
If you want to make sure you get the longest life from your skis and bases as well as all around better performance on the hill, consider upgrading to a hot wax with your next ski or board purchase.
